I bought this to see if it would open a variety of wine that has always been troublesome for our other corkscrews/wine-keys: Moscato d'Asti. The corks are slightly expanded into the flare of the neck (by the carbonation) and occasionally cause us to break the cheap "give-away" wine keys. (My "everyday carry" is a Code 38 Stealth.)This corkscrew has a cut worm (like an auger or twist drill) rather than the wire worm found on many corkscrews. It is also quite short and the length of pull is also quite short. I had to turn the worm in as far as it would go, pull as far as it would, turn the screw in a few more turns, pull some more, and repeat once more to pull a 1 1/4 inch cork (32mm; not extraordinarily long). Running the shank that far into the cork bulged it quite a bit, but did not actually split it.This corkscrew is handsomely made, and is heavy enough to feel good in the hand, but I would have preferred a longer, wire-type worm, and a longer stroke to remove the long corks found in many Italian wines.
