My first introduction to Laguiole products was when I acquired a pen set (fountain pen and ballpoint) with olivewood inlays. Like this corkscrew, the pens came in a high quality box and I was tempted to give it as a gift until I decided I wanted it.Like the pen set, this tool is made in the highest quality fashion, with no flaws in the finished product. Like the pens, this is functional art. Well made, great balance and a design that was executed by someone who obviously used similar tools and knew what they wanted as though they were designing it for theirself.For example, on many corkscrews the lever will travel a certain distance after the screw has engaged the cork to its maximum depth. This forces you to disengage the lever, screw a few more turns, then reengage and attempt to extract the cork. With some tools there is insufficient room to use the lever a third time (and sometimes a second) because the notch that fits the lip of the bottle has gone past the lip itself. Not so with this tool. Granted, my example does not often happen, but for pesky corks that seem as though they are a permanent part of the bottle, this tool is a godsend.The rosewood inlay is beautifully matched and mated to the handle, and the construction is solid. The box is an extra touch and one that makes this an ideal gift. At the current price there is no reason to not grab a few spares, and I guarantee that if you do give it as a gift the lucky recipient is going to assume it cost a lot more than you paid.

Purchased this corkscrew after all the others I had purchased failed after a short period of time. I tried many of the new models, and they were all very easy to use but they all FAILED after a short while. It is not like I was using them in a restaurant: I open maybe four bottles a week. Anyway, so far this is working well, although not as easy as some, it seems to be well made. If it fails I will be sure to change this review, but so far so good.

Waiters use this type of corkscrew for a reason - it gets the job done efficiently and is compact. This corkscrew exceeded by expectations considering its relatively low cost. I appreciate the heavy-duty screw - compared to my other corkscrews this one seems more robust. The level action also removes the entire cork in one fluid motion. It's also attractive with the rosewood handle and slim design.
