We've tried them all. This design is not unique to Le Creuset, but it seems to be the best darn corkscrew out there. Metrokane (the Rabbit) has a similar model, but it's prone to breaking. If you compare the two side by side, it's easy to see why. The "shoulders" on this model bear no strain from the rising cork, whereas the Metrokane really has no structural shoulders. We've broken two of those. Metrokane has a decent warranty but you must have a receipt and send in 10 bucks. I'd rather by one of these than have to deal with that process often.Cheers!

This tool is incredibly simple. It pulls a cork with very little effort. Just sit the internal shoulders of the tool on the top of the wine bottle, squeeze firmly, and turn the handle of the screw. As soon as the screw bites into the cork, you can feel the tool being pulled against the top of the bottle and exerting an upward force on the cork. After a few more turns of the screw, the cork begins to ride up the screw until it is clear of the bottle. Then, just turn the screw in the opposite direction to remove the pulled cork from the screw.We purchased this tool to replace our Rabbit opener which we had for years. Something died inside the mechanism which I can't seem to decipher. Looking forward to using the new tool which also has the advantage of being relatively tiny so it fits nicely into a kitchen drawer.
