Some of the reviewers have complained that Ariel (the mermaid bottle operner, of course) isn't actually very good at opening bottles. At first I thought that Ariel was really fickle. Sometimes she would lift the cap right off my bottle, other times, try though I might she refused to even grip the cap.One evening I was having trouble with Ariel while I was still relatively sober, and so I did some experimentation with not only my beer but some friends' beers as well. It turns out Ariel is most effective if you hold her so that her tits face downwards as you view the bottle (and cap) from above. In case this is unclear, her tail should be pointing counter clockwise.Now that I've made peace with Ariel, the world is my oyster!

This is an easy gift for any boater. The opener is solid metal with a rust/antique finish and has a nice weight and feel to it. The mermaid is a perfect choice for someone who loves the ocean.
