I bought this opener as a present for my mother for Christmas. She only uses it maybe twice a month & by May it had broken. The handle skipped some gears when trying to use it & will not go back to where it is supposed to be. I would not recommend this item.

After about two months of occasional use, it does not pull the cork out. The screw goes in, and the screw comes out unencumbered by cork material. I suppose if one pierces the cork enough, it will fall apart. I recommend buying a product that is functional.

I used this rabbit ears style wine opener for about 9 months when I noticed that the metal shaft which connects to the gearing was pulling out. After maybe two more uses, the device became so stiff due to this shaft connection failure, it became difficult to use. The connection should not be "sweated" in but instead threaded. A threaded connection would prevent a failure of this type and I would still be using it. The opener had been discarded and not replaced.
