I love this corkscrew. I've had mine for 20 years, opened hundreds of bottles with it, and given a dozen or more as gifts. It's very light and extraordinarily effective. I have no idea why anyone bothers with those heavy, clunky, expensive wine openers when this one works perfectly and effortlessly. You don't need to exert any force when opening the bottle nor do you have to worry about perfect placement before you spin the crank. With some corkscrews, if you don't place the point of the screw in just the right place on the cork, the cork will split or shred as you crank down into it. Not so with this one; it's automatically placed correctly just by the way it sits over the bottle.After removing the foil with the foil-cutter attached to the side (which honestly could be a little sharper), you set the Screwpull over the top of the bottle. The two "legs" slide onto either side of the bottle. Push down a little bit on the top of the screw to make sure the point is seated into the cork. Otherwise, the screw will just spin over the top of it. You then spin the crank around several times and the screw goes down into the cork and pulls it out at the same time, hence the "screw" and "pull" in the name. This design allows the Screwpull to do all the work of extracting the cork; no strength or pulling required.I bought this when I was training as a fine-dining server and terrified of shredding corks and ruining expensive bottles of wine while doing tableside wine presentations. It has never let me down, and I've continued to use it at home for years. We've tried a few other Screwpull models out of curiosity but find that this one is the best, hands-down.

I have used this model myself for over sixteen years. I actually enjoy using it, being so easy to use as it is. This is the Screwpull model recommended by and lauded by Kevin Zraly. Mr. Zraly is the author of my highly recommended The Windows on the World Wine Course book, and world famous wine course teacher and wine expert. As you turn the handle the teflon-coated screw automatically pulls the cork out of the bottle neck as you spin the screw-arm, hence screw-pull, the eponymous Screwpull brand name.TO USE: After removing the foil with the Screwpull foil cutter, or this corkscrew's built-in foil knife, place the unit over the neck of the wine bottle, insert the screw arm, press down into the cork to start and the screw automatically centers itself in the cork, then when the screw bites deeper, you simply place a forefinger in the hole at the end of the horizontally positioned screw-arm, grip the sides of the Screwpull with the other hand, and spin clockwise. A simple, professional-looking procedure. No real effort is required. especially because the screw itself is teflon-coated. When the cork rises all the way to the top, hold the cork with one hand and unscrew the screw-arm counter clockwise with the other hand, remove the cork...done. NEVER have I destroyed a cork with this Pocket Corkscrew nor had any problems with it in any way. Great product, ubiquitous in France and popular with oenophiles the world over. This Pocket Model comes in colors, but colors other than black seem hard to find in the USA.Being that the price is low, yet quality is high, I would buy a couple of these corkscrews, one for the home, one for travel...keep it in the car glove box so you never forget it. For frequently opening lots of bottles buy one of Screwpull's much more expensive lever models.
