Customer Opinions

Durable, heavy-duty, perfect for old corks
J. Bowman

The primary feature that sold me on this corkscrew was the stainless steel serrated foil blade. It works better than I could have hoped, still keeping its sharpness after many bottles, without tearing as often as cheaper ones as they age. Naturally, for the cheaper plastic "foils" it cuts like butter. Since I lost my last screw and the closest replacement on Amazon was only available in non-serrated at the time, this double-hinge was the next-best budget tool. Despite that, it feels like it's anything but.Metrokane's Rabbit line lives up to its reputation, with a very well-made, heavy duty, solid corkscrew that works exceptionally well on weak old corks. From the first touch it's obvious - it's much heavier than most waiter-style screws, made entirely of metal, but every piece is nicely rounded so that it never hurts to hold. The screw is almost too heavy, very difficult to pull open at first, but gets easier as time goes on. The bolts on every piece are very tight and thick, and show no sign of going anywhere. The lips of both levels are properly indented so that they will never slip, and it's extremely easy to use once you get the hang of the two steps. The screw could have been a bit thinner, in my opinion, to make it even easier to open crumbly corks, but that would also compromise its strength, and the teflon coating does a good job as it is. If you don't have bottles that have sat forgotten for years in a dusty closet, the thickness won't make a bit of difference, but in that case, neither would the double-hinged lever.Having once had a Pulltap, I have to say that while the design isn't quite as visually beautiful, the screw is much more heavy duty and the blade is longer lasting, plus everything feels more solid. The packaging was very nice, as well, and as a first impression gave me a very warm feeling. Small thing, but it helps.

Slice my finger with it every time
Hope Barnard

Near impossible to open, even after months of use. I have to pry the corkscrew open slowly and then it jerks and slashes open my finger. Every time. Loathe this thing. Worst Amazon purchase I've made.

Functional, quality . . . but stiff
Matthew Gilarmo

This was a present for a friend (since I broke the previous one). I wanted to buy a Pulltap since I have one and really like it, however all the reviews seem to reference receiving knock-offs and I didn't want to risk it.When we took this one out of the box, everyone said "ohh, that's a nice one" . . . and it is, but there are a couple of quirks:1) Both hinges attached to the black handle are stiff. Maybe this will go away as time goes by and it gets used more, but this does make is hard to "gracefully" open a bottle of wine.2) The foil cutter was difficult to lift, at first. If you're familiar with a waiter's corkscrew, you know that there is a lip/groove on the foil cutter where your thumbnail goes so that you can flip it out to use it. The edge of this foil cutter seems to recede into the handle more than I was used to, making it difficult to get my nail in to lift it up and out. HERE'S THE TRICK - first extend the actual corkscrew piece, and then you should see the foil cutter rise up above the handle enough to grab it.Other than that, it's a nice corkscrew . . . but I'm still keeping my eye out for an authentic Pulltap.
