I tried it out (thankfully not at a table in front of guests) and it didn't work. Not made well at all.

It is a nice novelty decoration corkscrew, great for a bird watcher, but it is not very functional. Very difficult to pull corks.

Kikkerland flubbed the design with the Owl corkscrew. It does not work like a waiter's corkscrew. The bottle opener part (the "owl's wing"), does not have the usual indentation toward the end. Accordingly, it does not brace properly against the mouth of the wine bottle. Even if that design flaw were corrected, the owl's wing would not provide any leverage because it pivots from the same point as the corkscrew. Unfortunately, I relied on the early 5-star reviews on Amazon when I bought this thing instead of looking over the product carefully. Shame on me.
